Can Chickens Eat Bananas?

Yes — bananas are safe in small amounts. They are soft, easy to peck, and most flocks get excited about them fast, which is exactly why portion size matters.

Bananas bring quick energy and a little potassium, but they are also sugary and soft enough that hens can overdo them if you let them. Extension guidance on poultry diets is clear that treats should not displace a complete ration. The layer feed still has to do the heavy lifting.

Mash or slice the banana and give just enough for the flock to finish in a few minutes. Skip banana peels unless you chop them very small; most hens ignore the tough texture anyway.
